Comparison between the Lagrangian and Eulerian Approach in Simulation of Free Surface Air-Core Vortices

The problematic consequences regarding formation of air-core vortices at the intakes and drastic necessity a thorough investigation into phenomenon has resulted in particular attention being placed on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) as an economically viable method. Two main approaches could be taken using CFD, namely Eulerian Lagrangian methods each which is characterized by specific advantages disadvantages. Whereas many researchers have used approach for vortex simulation, not been found literature. present study dealt with comparison simulation flow. Simulations based both were carried out solving Navier–Stokes equations accompanied LES turbulence model. results numerical model evaluated accordance physical steady flow particle image velocimetry (PIV), revealing that are sufficiently capable simulating but difference method greater computational cost less accuracy.
